Many of our older homes were originally built with windows that had no weather stripping. Some have windows with weather stripping made of zinc or other metals. When properly maintained, this zinc weather stripping works quite well. But if this weather stripping becomes damaged it is difficult to repair. It’s common to see damaged weatherstripping under the bottom rail. Additionally, without proper technique, it’s easy to damage zinc weatherstripping when attempting to repair a sash cord.
For those wanting to keep the rope and pulley system intact, spring bronze can be installed as a way of adding weather stripping.
For those willing to have their sashes modified, vinyl jamb liners can be installed in place of the rope and pulley system
